CDC sees the coming on line of four new investors in the Coega SEZ


The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) welcomes the coming online of four new operational investors in the maritime, chemicals, healthcare and renewable energy sectors of the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The four companies located in the Coega SEZ include, National Ship Chandlers in Zone 1, Healthcare Hub, Enel Green Power and Corromaster respectively all located in Zone 3.

“The CDC has since the start of this year, seen over 4 companies becoming operational from the period of January to June 2017,” says Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC Head of Marketing and Communications.


The coming online of the four companies complements the current construction of projects taking place within the SEZ, including the Customs Control Area (CCA) Fencing, MM Engineering – Zone 3, CCA - Building in Zone 1 and Kenako Construction – Zone 5.

“The newly plugged in companies pushes the total number of operational investors at the Coega SEZ to forty (40) with an investment value of R6, 996 billion,” adds Dr Vilakazi.


Background on the investors


National Ship Chandlers is one of the largest ship suppliers in South Africa with resident branches in the four South African ports of call, mainly Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban (Head office) and Richards Bay. The company offers a range of products including rare and exclusive foods to ships and is now also part of the Coega family of investors as located in Zone 1 of the Coega SEZ.


Healthcare Hub also known as Ambasaam has a proven record in medical supply chain solution into Africa and global markets. It has a global footprint with its head offices located in the USA and has established a footprint in the Coega Multiuser facility, Zone 3.


Another player in the Renewable Energy sector and part of the Independent Power Producer (IPP) Procurement Programme is Enel Green. The company specialises on wind farms and solar energy with a niche on developing and management of power generation through renewable sources and has expanded its reach by locating at the Coega Multiuser facility, Zone 3.


Lastly, Corromaster is a low-cost independent manufacturer of Corrugated Cardboard Packaging and has set up a sales and warehouse facility in Zone 3 of the Coega SEZ.
