Appointment of Coega - Department of Public Works and Infrastructure appoints an independent team to assess fire damage to Parliamentary buildings affected by the January fire

South Africa, Gqeberha, 13 February 2021 – The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) notes the confirmation by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) that it has been appointed to assess fire damage to Parliamentary buildings affected by the January 2022 fire.

In a statement issued by the Department on Sunday, 13 February 2022, it says, DPWI’s Bid Evaluation Committee recommended COEGA be appointed for the independent assessment. In close consultation with National Treasury, on Friday 11 February 2022, DPWI appointed the Coega Development Corporation to perform assessments of the fire-damaged buildings at Parliament.

“We are humbled by the confidence placed on the CDC on such an important symbol of our constitutional democracy. We accept the responsibility with the greatest of humility and recognise the hard work that lies ahead of us. We will certainly execute our responsibility with the utmost professionalism and diligence working together with all relevant stakeholders,” says Khwezi Tiya, Coega Development Corporation CEO.
