NEW APPOINTMENT: Ms. Asanda Xawuka joins the CDC as the Executive Manager for
Business Development


Gqeberha, 29 October 2021 – The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) announced today the appointment of Ms. Asanda Xawuka, as the incoming Executive Manager for Business Development, effective from 02 November 2021.

The appointment follows the advertising of the post on 08 March 2021, in search of dynamic, suitably qualified, and seasoned candidates who would add value to the strategic direction of the CDC. Welcoming the appointment of Ms. Xawuka, the CDC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Khwezi Tiya, highlighted the importance of diversity of skill, background and experience amongst the executive management team for growth and sustainability. “We are excited to welcome Ms. Xawuka to our team. We hope that her appointment will contribute immensely to the strategic goals and objectives of the organisation, and the new Coega SEZ re-imagined programme.”

Ms. Xawuka, née Boyi, hails from Mdantsane, East London. She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (cum laude) from the Nelson Mandela University - Business School, a B-Tech in Industrial Engineering (University of South Africa), and a National Diploma in Industrial Engineering (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University). She has a certificate in Project Management and Leadership Development from the Leadership Development Institute and is currently a third year LLB student at the University of Fort Hare.

Asanda, as she is affectionately known, started her career in the automotive manufacturing sector, as an Industrial and Process Engineer, before joining Eskom Distribution in the Eastern Cape. There, she spent over 13 years as a Business Analyst before being promoted to a management role focusing on Technical Audit Advisory, Quality Management, Continuous Business Improvement and Business Ethics Advisory. She has Acted as Middle Manager Business Strategy and Performance Management reporting to the Provincial General Manager, a position which allowed her to participate in Governance Committees as a member of the Provincial Tender and Assurance Committee. She was also the Chairperson of the Provincial Workplace Forum, facilitating engagement processes and dispute resolution between Organised Labour and Management for efficiencies in operations and the promotion of good working relations.

She joins the CDC on 02 November 2021 after having occupied a position of Executive Manager for Operations at Joe Gqabi Economic Development Agency (JGEDA) for two years. Her scope of responsibility entailed overall management of the entity’s operations and the implementation of infrastructure programme (Water and Sanitation) on behalf of the parent municipality, Business, Property, Tourism and Agriculture Development. This involved identifying and unlocking the economic development fortunes within the district, engaging with potential investors, and overall stakeholder engagement with government and private sector with the aim of forming strategic partnerships for project implementation and providing overall support to the Office of the Chief Executive Officer and presenting entities performance to the Board of Directors.
